About Companion Animal Resourse Enrichment Society
Founded by a local student in the Veterinary Technician Program, at Ogeechee Technical Institute, Statesboro, Georgia, Jeff Perry, CARES was formed to provide relief to animal rescue workers and foster families of rescued animals.
Jeff went to area businesses and began to compile resources of pet products to be distributed to relieve some of the burden of these caring and devoted people. So far, to date, many hundreds of pounds of cat and dog food have been dispersed throughout Bulloch and Screven Counties.
Jeff’s next project was noting the need for a more humane answer to Screven County’s Animal Shelter. Many loyal and loving companion animals were being put to death within a one-week time frame. Taking the idea a step further, Jeff has provided many hours and dollars in obtaining his new goal, CARES Adoption Clinic. Plans are to open our doors on April 17th, 2005.
At the CARES Adoption Clinic, and through many foster families, the intent is to relieve the current animal death camp of as many viable companions as possible. Next we bring them into the clinic where trained volunteers and students from OTC will provide simple diagnostics, grooming, and affection while they wait for adoption. We will be offering clinics to help educate anyone interested in the great need for spaying or neutering your animals. We have several area veterinarians who are behind us and who will be over-seeing the clinic along with giving these animals medical attention as needed. These same veterinarians will be contributing services to spay or neuter our animals before they go to new homes.
As you can see, Jeff has been very busy! We all contribute all that we can, but no man is an island here. It will take the efforts of all of us to make this continue to happen.
